Ahmed Ekzayez

Researcher at the Syria Development Centre, Consultant at Nasam Khair organization and Refugees as Re-Builders programme.

Ahmed Ekzayez is an agronomist with an MSc in Plan Protection, Also, he has a diploma in conflict prevention, negotiation and transitional justice. Ahmed is currently working as researcher in the Syria Development Centre ('SDC'), which is a centre based in London, UK, specialised in the study of sustainability and development policy and research in Syria. Additionally, Ahmed is a consultant at Refugees as Re-Builders programme, which is an active programme for settled diaspora refugees' leaders and professionals originating in war torn regions of the world. Covering key skills in three interlocking themes of Dialogue for Social Cohesion, Ethical Leadership for Just Governance and Sustainable Livelihood.

 

From 2007 to 2015, Ahmed worked as research associate in ICARDA (international centre for agricultural research in the dry area). His work in ICARDA was focusing on the plant genetic resources and plant epidemiology to curtail epidemics that threaten worldwide food security. In 2015 Ahmed joined Shafak organization (Syrian non-profit non-governmental organization) as Food Security and Livelihoods program manager. In his role with Shafak, Ahmed was overseeing almost 13 Food Security and Livelihoods projects, and 5 research assessments which were implemented in collaboration between Shafak organizational and several INGOs and UN agenesis (UNOCHA, FAO, GIZ, Save the children, CARE international, Global Communities, GOAL, World Vision International). Ahmed, also, worked as consultant at United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) from 2017-2021. During this period, he was leading the food security and agricultural sector in Turkey programme, then, he moved to Bangladesh to oversee the FAO's Rohingya refugee response programme.

 

One of Ahmed’s notable scientific achievements has been getting award as the best Oral Presentations of the graduate students in the 11th Arab Congress of Plant Protection (11th ACPP, 2014), organized by the Arab Society of Plant Protection (ASPP) and the Faculty of Agricultural Technology, Al-Balqa’ Applied University, Al Salt-Jordan.
