Dr Ruba Al Akash

Ruba Al Akash is the Chairperson of Anthropology Department at Yarmouk University, and former Deputy Director of Princess Basma Centre for Jordanian Women Studies, and assistant professor of anthropology at Yarmouk University- Faculty of Archaeology and Anthropology. Former Visiting Research Fellow in the Refugee Studies Centre -Oxford University-UK. She worked as a faculty member in the Department of Architecture and Design, and the department of humanities at Jordan University of Science and Technology. Ruba completed her Ph.D. in Social Anthropology at Kent University-Canterbury; she also holds BA in Journalism and Mass Communication, MA in Social Anthropology from Al Yarmouk University-Jordan. As a social anthropologist with an interest in the Middle East, Women studies, displacement, forced migration as well as religion and politics, her research approach is highly interdisciplinary particularly at the intersection between social, political and urban anthropology. More recently, she has been investigating the impact of forced migration, and displacement of Syrian refugees inside and outside camps in Jordan. Current research focuses on the Syrian refugees’ experiences in Jordan and GBV issues.
